The Spruce & Shore Motel property includes four separate buildings, each with distinct character and history.
The Motel That Was Moved Across the Water
1964
The Motel Building
A remarkable piece of local history, this motel building was originally constructed in 1964 as part of the Eagle Inn in Ephraim.
Harbor Cottage
Built in the early 1970s, this charming cottage is one of the original accommodations from the legacy Fish Creek Motel that remains standing today. It provides a unique, nostalgic guest experience with spectacular views of Fish Creek Harbor and Alibi Dock directly across the street.
1970
1972
Duplex construction
Built in 1972, this structure originally served as the permanent residence of the motel-owning family.
Door-Co Motel takes a trip
In May 1981, the entire motel building was floated across Green Bay by barge to its current location in Fish Creek. Uniquely, each individual room was left fully furnished during the move. The motel building has 13 guest rooms total.
1981
2000
Duplex conversion
In the early 2000s, the family residence was thoughtfully converted into a duplex, creating two spacious rental units that maintain the charm and warmth of a home away from home. Today, these are the Spruce Suite & Shore Suites.
Queen Suites construction
Built in 2009, the eight Queen Suites stand on the historic ground where the original 15-room Fish Creek Motel once stood. These modern one-bedroom, one-bathroom suites offer comfortable accommodations with contemporary amenities.
2009
2025
New Ownership, New experience
In January 2025, the motel, suites, cottage and guest homes were extensively renovated when the property, Fish Creek Inn & Suites, was brought under new ownership by The Refresh Collection. Major renovations include new flooring, decor, and furnishings, as well as adding new guest amenities to the property.
Grand Reopening
Since opening in May 2025, Spruce & Shore offers a harmonious blend of history and contemporary luxury featuring beautifully updated rooms, cozy suites with fireplaces and kitchenettes, a standalone cottage, and a duplex, all complemented by amenities like an in-ground pool and serene water views. Our commitment is to provide a warm, inviting retreat where memories are made, stories are shared, and the spirit of Door County is celebrated.
